Thai Typing Introduction

Thai is a spoken language in Thailand and parts of Northeast India. The language derives from the Old Tai Kingdom which was located in what is now northern Laos and southern Shan State, Burma. Thai has been the national language of Thailand since the early 19th century. It is also an official language of Laos and is spoken by Shan people in Burma.

Thai Language History

In Thailand, the language of the people has been spoken since at least the 12th century. Originally a regional language spoken by the Tai people, Thai eventually became the national language of Thailand in 1778. In spite of its long history, Thai is relatively new as a written language. The earliest known document in Thai is from the 13th century and does not include any writing system. It was not until the 17th century that a system of writing Thai was developed. This system is called the Burmese script, after the country from which it was borrowed. The Thai script was eventually adapted to represent the sound systems of various regions in Thailand and emerged as its own distinct alphabet. Today, Thai is written using a modified version of the Burmese script called the Roman alphabet.

Thai Alphabets

The Thai alphabet consists of 22 letters. Each letter is pronounced with a specific sound, and each letter has a specific meaning. In addition, there are two vowel letters - อ (a) and ฮ (h). The Thai alphabet can be divided into two groups - consonants and vowels. Consonants are the letters that make up the bulk of the Thai alphabet. Vowels consist of อ (a), ฮ (h), ฯ (y), and โ (w).
